CampusBell Android Endpoint - RC13 FIELD TEST Version 0.7.2-rc.13.android.1 / version code 14 THIS IS A DEVELOPMENT-SIGNED TEST APK, NOT A PRODUCTION RELEASE. Android hardware playback, overnight operation and OEM-specific behavior still need physical acceptance. Protocol tests do not prove audible speaker output. Download the matching files from: https://campusopshq.com/campusbell/downloads/#android-rc13-field-test REQUIREMENTS - Main CampusBell 0.7.2-rc.13 with Network Audio. RC12 does not include this protocol. - Android 6 or newer, connected to the same private LAN and kept powered. - A working Android speaker/headphone/USB output connected to your amplifier or powered speakers. The network cable alone does not connect the PA. SETUP 1. Install the APK on Android and open CampusBell Endpoint. Allow notifications. 2. Choose the actual output, enter a name, and press Save name & output. 3. Press Test this speaker. Confirm that someone hears the short test tone. 4. Press Allow setup for 2 minutes. 5. On Windows RC13, open Network Audio > Find adapters. Add this endpoint and assign its zones. If discovery is blocked, use Add manually with the private IPv4 address shown on Android (port 8879). 6. On Android, verify the requesting Main computer and approve it. 7. Refresh Network Audio on Windows, check connection and device availability, and use Test audio. Listen at the remote physical speaker. 8. In the bell, music block or page, choose network endpoints and its zones. UPDATING AN OLDER ANDROID ENDPOINT This package ID and certificate match the saved 0.7.0-alpha.1 debug APK, with version code increased from 13 to 14. Android updates require the same signing certificate as the installed APK. Do not uninstall or clear app data just to bypass a signature mismatch. Configure the output and approve Main again once; legacy credentials are not imported into the new protocol automatically. ALWAYS-ON LIMITS On Android 15 and newer, OPEN CAMPUSBELL AFTER REBOOT to resume the receiver. Android restricts automatic media-playback foreground-service startup. On older Android versions the app attempts automatic startup, subject to OEM restrictions. Allow unrestricted battery use for CampusBell and test with the screen locked. Use a non-production destination before replacing any working school audio path. NETWORK AND MEDIA Discovery: multicast UDP 43831. Audio/control: pinned HTTPS TCP 8879 on Android. Do not expose these ports to the internet. School IT must permit traffic across VLANs if needed. No microphone permission is needed on the receiving Android app. Use WAV/MP3 for initial bell tests; other formats depend on Android codecs. Text announcements require an installed working Android speech engine/voice. Missed bells are not replayed when an offline endpoint reconnects. TEST BEFORE LIVE USE Test a scheduled bell, streamed music, bell interruption/resume, microphone page, zone targeting, locked-screen operation, network loss/recovery, output unplug, mute, app restart and reboot. Confirm both the reported result and actual sound.
